Our Story Started with
a Few Forgotten Pieces...
Being born in the heart of Mithila art, Madhubani, comes with a quiet privilege. Tucked away in family cupboards were a handful of hand-painted Mithila paintings on cloth. They would emerge only during the annual Diwali cleaning, admired for a few moments before returning to their familiar corners.
Growing up, those paintings felt ordinary. They were simply part of the home.
Years later, the family decided to frame a couple of those paintings.
Once they found a place on the walls, everything changed.
The intricate details, vibrant colors, and timeless craftswomanship became impossible to ignore. Even after more than 30 years, the paintings looked as beautiful as ever.
It made us realize: this extraordinary art form wasn’t getting the place it truly deserved.
Our Name is a Celebration of Soulfully Woven Contrasts
Mithila Melange brings together two words: Mithila, the heartland of the culture, and Melange, meaning a medley.
Mithila is a mix of contrasts, from its food and language to its art forms like Madhubani painting, where simple linework and intricate detail sit side by side.
There wasn’t a better word than Melange to capture that.

Art deserves to be seen every day, not just stored away for special occasions.
Mithila art is celebrated across the world, yet many people who grew up around it have overlooked it (including me). Modern homes also don’t always have the space for large, traditional Madhubani paintings, no matter how beautiful they are.
That’s why I started Mithila Melange.
Instead of limiting Mithila art to gallery walls, Mithila Melange brings it into everyday life through handcrafted home decor, tableware, organizers, accessories, and thoughtful gifts. Objects that are meant to be used, cherished, and lived with, carrying the colors, stories, and traditions of Mithila.
